Adobe Acrobat 8 is popular software that allows you to create and edit PDF files. Unlike other documents, a PDF maintains its formatting when shared with others. Using the full Acrobat program, you can change and edit both the text content and the images of a PDF file. It is even possible to save the PDF in a different format, making it easy to bring the contents from Adobe Acrobat to Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect.
- Launch Adobe Acrobat. Wait for the computer to finish loading the program, then click “File” followed by “Open.” Select the PDF that you want to change.
-
Step 2
Click on the area of the PDF you want to edit. If it is text, a cursor will appear where you clicked. If it is an image, the image will be highlighted.
-
Step 3
Modify the text by typing in additional content or deleting. You can move the picture by clicking it and dragging it. You can also change its size by clicking and dragging from one of the corners.
-
Step 4
Save the changes by clicking ‘”Files,” followed by “Save.” If you want to save the PDF as a different format, click “Files” followed by “Save As.” The Save window appears with a format selection area on the bottom. Click on the format you want to change the PDF to and click “Save.”
Adobe is continually trying to improve its products to fit the needs of its target audience better. Adobe’s upgrade from Acrobat 8 Professional to Acrobat 9 Professional is seeking to expand customers’ capabilities to collaborate using Portable Document Format (PDF) files while retaining the same features from Acrobat 8.
Track Forms
- Adobe improved its wizard to make it easier to create forms, but it is still very similar to the way forms were created in Acrobat 8. The greatest change for PDF forms is that Adobe now includes a way to track forms using an included account on Acrobat.com.
Synchronize Pages
- Page synchronization is a way to collaborate with another party. Users can chat about the document while Adobe makes sure that members are viewing the same portion of the document,
Compare Documents
- Acrobat 9 can compare two versions of a document and highlight changes. If you have multiple copies of a PDF, you will be able to quickly see which version has the correct changes.
Play Videos in PDF
- Purchasing Flash from Macromedia in 2005 gave Adobe the capability to implement better integration between Flash videos and Adobe software. As a result, Acrobat 9 Professional can include a Flash video within a PDF file that can be played using Adobe Reader.
Create PDF Portfolios
- With the ability to incorporate other video and other files, Acrobat has become an excellent tool for creating a professional portfolio. Adobe realized this and allows you to package all types of files, such as Flash, Excel, PowerPoint and Word documents within a PDF without converting the files to static PDF files.
Adobe Acrobat Reader allows you to read Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Adobe Acrobat Reader is freeware and can be downloaded from a number of different locations. Adobe’s website directs personal users to download a download manager, which then handles the large file download gracefully; however, there is no provision for capturing the full installer to install Adobe 8, offline. An offline installer can be acquired from other sources.
- Determine what version of Adobe Acrobat Reader you want to install. Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 is a fairly recent version, but as of April 2009, Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.1 is available. In general, you always want the newest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, but an old version will often allow you to view PDF files for some time after a newer version is released.
-
Step 2
Go to www.cnet.com. Click on the “Downloads” tab. Click “Utilities and Operating Systems.” Click “Maintenance & Optimization.” Choose to “Sort by Product Name.” Browse to “Adobe Reader.” The most recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader will probably be listed; click on this if you don’t see the particular version you’re looking for.
-
Step 3
Download the current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader or select the version you desire from the “Previous Versions” list. If choosing a previous version does not direct you to a webpage containing the product you want, please go back and download the current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. A newer version of Adobe Acrobat Reader should read a PDF file created by an older version of Adobe Acrobat.
-
Step 4
Copy the resulting installer file to your offline media (burn to a CD, copy to a portable hard drive). Take your offline media to the computer where you want to install Adobe Acrobat Reader offline. If the contents of the media don’t automatically display when you connect it to the new computer, open “My Computer” or “Windows Explorer” and browse to the media.
-
Step 5
Open the installer file. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Tips & Warnings
-
Don’t be misled by any ads on the website that may direct you to download a similar-sounding product from a different website. These are paid ads. Not all software products are created equal, and some of the paid ads may direct you to websites that will try to charge you or give you an unsafe product containing viruses or malware.
Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional provides efficient functions for users to create interactive PDFs (forms) to collect information. Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional enables users to edit PDF files by removing objects such as pictures and text from a page. The advanced editing and redaction tools provide flexibility in revising either converted documents or scanned documents. The Object Editing Tool allows objects to be selected and then deleted from a page. The Redaction Tool offers users the function to draw a box around an area or object and replace this selection with a colored box (which can be white). The redacted sections effectively convert to “white out.”
